Yahoo Sports launched a partnership with NBCSports while I was an intern there in 2013. They wanted to provide potential soccer fans with an introduction to each English Premier League team in preparation for the upcoming season. I was tasked with researching and helping with production on each of the eighteen segments we did.
There are twenty Premier League clubs, and three were recently promoted, so we merged them into one segment. One of the most popular clubs amongst American soccer fans is Chelsea. We wanted to educate our fans on some of the intricacies of being a fan of the Blues, which includes a long tradition (and obsession) with celery. While we were producing these segments, Fulham was making a lot of news. The club had just been sold to Jacksonville Jaguars owner, Shad Khan. However, one of the fun things that the club was doing was using chickens to predict who was going to win matches. Surprisingly, some of them were accurate! Manchester United might be the most famous club in the United States, thanks to a guy named David Beckham. However, the club was still catching up to the 21st century fad of Twitter and created their official Twitter account while we were in production. Talk about making waves on social media! |

Marquette Athletics' branch of SAAC held a talent show competition in the spring where teams competed against each other for bragging rights as the most talented team on campus. The student athletes were extremely competitive and were challenged by a surprisingly talented group of coaches. I followed student-athletes and coaches to capture their post-competition reaction. After finishing his degree at Arizona State, Trent Lockett used his final year of eligibility to play basketball at Marquette. I spoke with him about why he chose Marquette, juggling and his thoughts on Buzz Williams' program as an experienced Division I basketball player as he went into the 2012-2013 season. During men's basketball media day, we found Dylan Flood, a member of the men's basketball team. Flood, a walk-on now in his second season, was in attendance at Marquette Madness as a student. With Marquette's Project 300, I took Flood back to his seat where he relived his student experience at Marquette Madness and reflected on his time as a member of the men's basketball team. |

Next to SNL's Chris Farley, the most famous Marquette alumnus is Dwyane Wade. The Miami Heat guard was in attendance at Marquette's game vs. Seton Hall in 2012. MUTVSports was the only media outlet to get an interview with Wade while he was at the game. The interview garnered over 1,000 views in the first 24 hours of being online. The Marquette University women's soccer team has a family theme each season. For Cara and Emily Jacobson, this went beyond the pitch. The set of fraternal twins from Shorewood, Wis. decided independently to play for Markus Roeders. While both could easily answer questions about their soccer ability, the two of them struggled to pinpoint the biggest difference between the two of them on camera. |

One of the greatest opportunities I had as an undergraduate was traveling to New York twice to cover Marquette's men's basketball program. The first time was when Marquette traveled to Madison Square Garden to compete in the Jimmy V Classic vs. Washington. Jae Crowder won the game for MU on a last second three. Coach Buzz Williams is known for being a "players" coach, but his answer to a key question reinforced that perception. |

The Marquette University women's soccer team has been one of Marquette's most successful programs in history. They have made three consecutive NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances. This was their second appearance in the tournament and hosted a first round game. Natalie Kulla was the leader of this team and ensured that we understood this team was not scared of overtime. |

The Marquette University men's soccer program was the first program to grant me a significant amount of access as a reporter. This BIG EAST opening win vs. Rutgers was crucial because it cemented the fact that this team was rising fast, only missing the NCAA Tournament by one match. |
